  1. This is wonderful information , my husband and I have been wanting to see Yellowstone and Grand Teton. What time of year would you suggest visiting? We were thinking May or October ?

    • Of those two months, I’d choose October. Either way, make sure the stuff you want to be open is open – those can both be “off-season” months and a lot of places are closed. In May there will be some baby critters around which is fun. This last May was lovely, but it is often cold, wet, and gray in May. There will likely be snow in the mountains, which is great, unless you want to horseback ride or something like that.

October can also have snow (as can any month!), but if you aren’t camping, you can enjoy the fall colors and the often, lovely days. That said, last year we got the biggest snow of the season in October! But that’s strange.

  2. We are going to Yellowstone May 28-June 4. Do you have any itineraries for beginning in West Yellowstone? I’m confused as to where to stay along the way. We were going to stay in West Yellowstone the first two nights. Not sure where to go from there.

    • Hi Dee
Thanks for reaching out! The 6-day Bozeman itinerary starts at the Bozeman airport, but has you spending the first two nights in West Yellowstone. Then you could stay at Roosevelt for a couple of nights, Mammoth/Gardiner one night, and Chico Hot Springs.

The itinerary is flexible in terms of where to stay. http://yellowstonetrips.com/guidebooks/

In a couple of weeks, I am going to do a one-hour live Zoom call with up to 5 people. You can submit questions ahead of time and ask questions during the call. It will be $75. If you are interested, let me know and I will add you to my mailing list when I figure out dates and times.

      Hope that helps!

      Mel

  3. This is great info.. much appreciated!
We are planning to visit both Sep 10-15th. We were able to book a cabin at Lake Yellowstone but have the option to cancel. Would it make sense to fly into Jackson and stay at modern motel throughout the duration of our stay and cancel lake Yellowstone? I know it would entail alit more driving but financially would be cheaper. We’re flying into Boston. Is Jackson our best option?
    This all seems overwhelming!
    TYIA!

    • I think if money is your main issue, then it makes sense to stay in Jackson, but it will take you at least an hour just to get to the South Entrance. I would recommend staying in West Yellowstone rather than Lake Hotel. You should be able to find something priced similarly to Jackson hotels and you’ll have much less driving to access Yellowstone.

  4. I meant we are flying from Boston.

  5. Hi, Love you guides! My plan is to fly into Bozeman and stay in West Yellowstone for three nights and then drive to Jackson Hole for 3 nights for Grand Teton and depart from the Jackson airport. But considering the two travel are pretty much wasted (coming from New Jersey). Will we get see all all the best parts.

    • I think you can see a lot in that time. Depending on what time you get into Bozeman, you could drive through the North Entrance (at Gardiner) and see Mammoth Hot Springs on the way to West Yellowstone. Then spend the next days around Norris and Canyon and the third day around Old Faith and the Upper/Lower Geyser Basins.
You can stop by West Thumb Geyser Basin on your way to Jackson.
